- Annual Short Story Competition. You don't need to be a member to enter this one. More details and requirements appear here.
- August 2011: Book review aimed at the Sunday Times. Choose a book published during 2009 or 2010. Maximum 250 words.
- 15 August 2011: Write a short article aimed at Getaway magazine. Maximum number of words is, 1000 - 1500. Osborne-Porter Literary Services have undertaken to compile a book and publish it using the best articles submitted. All entries will be subjected to the usual SAWC judging process. Proceeds from the book will be donated to the SAWC. If you wish you may include photographs.
- September 2011: Crime fiction. Topic: corruption; maximum number of words 2 500.
- October 2011: Lyrics max 30 lines excluding the chorus. More information about writing lyrics appears here.
- November 2011: Essay – write about a fork in the road. Maximum 800 words and please provide your own title.
- December 2011/January 2012: First chapter of a novel. Maximum 4 000 words (incl. prologue if there is one), please include a synopsis that is no longer than an A4 sheet (the synopsis is not included in the word count). No children’s stories permitted.
- February 2012: Poetry: The topic is "Confessions" consisting of no more than 30 lines of free verse.
- February 2012: Flash Fiction: "Room 3739", no more than 1000 words.
- March 2012: Children's story for young adults. You may choose the title, no more than 2000 words.
- April 2012: Magazine article for YOU magazine, no more than 1500 words.
- May 2012: A one act play lasting for 30 minutes called "The Truth about Emily".
- May 2012: Flash Fiction: "The Pearl Jacket" in less than 1000 words.
- June 2012: A short story called "After the Party", 2500 words max.
- July 2012: A short story (historical) cover a topic of your own choice in less than 2500 words.
